Marketing Research Community
Topic: Exposing High School Students to the World of Market Research
Facilitator: Steve Whayne, VP of Commercial Operations, Various Views Research
Part of the role that Various Views plays in the community is “Giving Back” whenever and wherever possible. One way to do this is to share our knowledge and learnings with young adults. When I was young, I wish that someone would have shared their experiences with me, in order to help me understand what market research was all about.
Here at VVR, we offer several opportunities for high school and college students. We offer a 20-hour “Bootcamp” that runs for one week, and is a crash course in Market Research, teaching the students the fundamentals of the field. They get to participate in a quantitative taste test, and then are shown the results of the test. They also get to design some qualitative research and participate in a focus group. We also offer a 60-hour Internship where students can specialize in areas such as Graphic Design, Market Research, Social Media, Videography, and Website Design. As the students work their way through their 60 hour commitment, it becomes apparent how these areas are inextricably linked.
It is the purpose of this session to showcase some of the work that these students have done over the years, in order to prove how valuable the experience is for both the student and Various Views. VVR has offered this program for about 3 years, and so far has “graduated” over 60 students.
About this Community: Forum for marketers and marketing researchers to network and discuss innovation, marketing research trends, and methodologies. Meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of the month.
