AMA Cincinnati was proud to partner with the African American Chamber of Commerce and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce USA to host our first local Workforce Development Day event. This event was created to offer job seekers tools and resources to kickstart their career search.
Held at the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, the Workforce Development Day included 5 sessions tailored to provide pivotal resources to job seekers.
The sessions available included:
- LinkedIn & Resume Reviews
- Pitch Workshop
- Networking
- Headshots
- Recruiter Panel
The event was priced at just $5 for organization members and $10 for guests or future-members. With services like headshots and resume reviews typically priced north of $200, attending this Workforce Development Day enabled attendees to access these beneficial job search services at less than 5% of their normal cost.
“Workforce Development efforts tailored to young professionals can transform our future by retaining local talent in all sectors of the economy,” said Alfonso Conejo, President of the Hispanic Chamber Cincinnati. “The economy is very strong, and we would like our human capital to take advantage of this situation.”
Briston Mitchell, Director of Transformative Initiatives & Relationships, Greater Cincinnati African American Chamber of Commerce also expressed the importance of the event for the community, stating “Workforce Development benefits everyone from small businesses to large corporations, government agencies to non-profits, and most importantly the economy and our communities. A person is not confident in doing something until they develop the skills to do it. Once a person has done just that they are unstoppable.”
American Marketing Association (AMA) Cincinnati Chapter President, Afton Palmer, shared her reasons for wanting to be involved with this event. “Providing development opportunities for people in the Cincinnati community is important to AMA Cincinnati and we’re proud to partner with two other great organizations to do that through this our new Workforce Development Day initiative! We’ve created this event to be an accessible one-stop-shop for job-seeking professionals, providing a space for people to get a fresh headshot, input on their resume/LinkedIn profile from hiring professionals, and learn valuable job search tactics from recruiters- all for less than the cost of a cup of coffee!”
Thank you to the African American Chamber of Commerce and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce USA and all the event volunteers, speakers, resume reviewers and more for partnering with AMA Cincinnati to make this event a success.
